The coffee blisters in my mouth
when all I want is the aftertaste
Strong and repulsive with a dash of perfection
It'll dwindle out while taste buds scream
and the person nearest gives an ephemeral look
With a tip of their hat, they walk
fading into a clash of black and gray
And I look up and scream
"Dear God, what have we become?"
But no one's there to answer
For when I glance to the skies
there are only bright lights and graceful machines
And they own this city which we can't take back
The rush, the rush, the rush
The madness is all around
So let me escape
with my one last sip
